About the Artist

 

Since 1991, Laura has been creating award-winning photographic landscape and scenic images.  She is one of only 3% of professional photographers in the United States that has achieved national certification from the Professional Photographic Certification Commission.  She has completed requirements and successfully recertified in 2003 and 2008.  Additionally, she was awarded Master Photographer in 2001.  Laura is a Tamarack artist, whose work has been juried into galleries and art shows in WV, Oh, and KY.  She is one of the selected artists in the University of Charleston WV Artists Emma Byrd Gallery permanent exhibit.

 

She utilizes digital capture with minimal postproduction to produce images that evoke emotional memories to represent the beauty of nature.  Laura’s goal and aspiration is to be a technically-proficient, aesthetically-pleasing photographer who continues to improve one’s craft.  She continutes to successfully compete in professional competitions and participate in continuing education activities.

 

Laura’s current goals include enhancing creativity utilizing digital imagery to to portray realistic landscape images, exploring marketing and business development skills, continuing to use desktop publishing and graphic art skills to create collages and mixed media artwork.

 

The portfolio of Laura’s work includes publications, calendars, tourist brochures, speaking at local, state and regional conferences, solo and group exhibits, as well as selected participation in galleries, gift shops, and art and craft shows.  A  new area Laura is offering is commissioned work for home decor.

 

Community activities are important as well.  Artwork has been donated to various nonprofit organizations.  Laura also volunteers her time to serve on various board of directors.  In 2009, Laura was awarded the Joseph W. Barta,Jr. Memorial Award for her outstanding service to the Professional Photographers of West Virginia.

 Workshops    

Latest Workshop News!!

Laura is sharing her knowledge of photography in Charleston and Huntington, West Virginia this spring.

In February and March, Laura held scheduled Beginner Digital Photography Workshops at the Unitarian Universalist Church  in Charleston.  A portion of her fee was donated to help fund art education programs for the church.  Other workshops will be held later this year, but are unscheduled at this time.   Review this space for future announcements. Laura holds workshops at The Red Caboose,  Cabell Huntington Convention and Visitors Bureau   If interested in this,  please contact Laura  at 304-743-8281 or email her at  lauramoul@aol.com.     A two hour workshop is now set for Thursday, September 16 from 2-4 pm. This is an introductory class on digital photography.  Space is limited and pre-registration is required.  Just call Laura.  A small fee will be charged.  Bring your camera and manual too. NEW: another intro class on digital photography is now scheduled for Saturday, October 9th from noon to 2 pm.  Please call Laura to reserve your spot.

 

Laura is also arranging private workshops for Intermediate SLR photographers by request. Saturday, Apri 17th, she led a group from CAMC, illustrating photo techniques, composition etc.  Following the 'shoot' at Kanawha State Forest, images were downloaded and critiqued.  It was fun to help others in enjoying photography and the outdoors. Lots of questions can be asked and hopefully shared in a small group workshop. 

 

At  Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge Laura was the Resident Professional Photographer in May 2010. Programs--May 2 Intro. to Digital Photography Walk-Freeland Trail 6 pm (great evening shooting after a rainstorm); and oin May 14 Travel Photography Tips-Refuge Center 7 pm; May 15 Valley Vibes: Introduction to Point & Shoot Digital Photography-Refuge Center 7 pm. Both programs were well-received, with powerpoints and handouts provided. 

 

Speaking: Laura is available for speaking to local groups on a variety of topics such as "Travel Photography", "Introduction to Digitial Photography"  "Canaan Wildlife Refuge Experience" etc.

 

Laura wil be speaking about marketing fine art photography on Monday, September 20, 2010, at Hedgecock Photography in Huntington to the Ohio Valley Professional Photographers.

 

Professional Photographers of America has selected Laura to conduct a Super Monday "Marketing Fine Art Photography" for Monday, Oct 25, 2010, 8 am to 5 pm.  It will be held at Twin Falls State Park and for early arrivals on Sunday, Laura will led a photo shoot of the park.  Twin Falls is in Wyoming County, West Virginia in southern WV.

Newspaper Articles this Summer (2010)

A local newspaper worked with me to do a first-person account of my experience in May.  The Huntington Herald Dispatch had a feature article about my Month in Canaan  published Sunday, June 20th.  There are photos in the paper, as some online too.  It has been interesting to edit my story with Dave Lavender's wonderful help.

Art Gawk in downtown Charleston, West Virginia during FestivALL 2010 in June and July.  Laura had three framed images for display during this fun event.  http://www.festivallcharleston.com/    Art Gawk has now moved to Huntington and I have 3 framed images on display somewhere in the downtown area for August and September.

 

The Upstairs Gallery in Ashland, Kentucky--Laura has new framed images for the summer and fall (after Sept 15).   http://www.yessy.com/TUG   The Fourth Annual Photography Exhibit will open on 1st Friday September 3rd.  I entered four framed images.

'Color Complements'  2nd Annual Summer Photography Exhibition at The Renaissance Art Gallery in Huntington, WV. Show runs from July 2 through August 1, 2010.  Entered three framed metallic images. http://renaissancegalleryart.blogspot.com/  My "Hearts of Grandeur" photo of wild bleeding hearts received a Merit Award at the opening reception on July 11, 2010.

 

"Landscapes of West Virginia"  Inspired: A West Virginia Series of Juried Exhibitions at the West Virginia Cultural Center Commissioners Gallery, opening reception June 28th.  Both of my framed metallic photographs were selected "Misty Trail" and "Morning Path".  This exhibit will continue until January 9, 2011.   Only 33 artwork was chosen from over 150 submitted pieces.  http://www.wvculture.org/museum/exhibits.html#inspired

 

Cynthia Bickey Art Gallery Beckley Art Group Juried Exhibition 2010  Laura' s photo "Exit Strategy" was accepted into this show that runs from August 20-September 19, 2010.  Opening reception was August 20, 2010, 6:30 - 8 pm.  The gallery is located at 600 Johnstown Road, Beckley, WV.

 

Allied Artists of West Virginia has a Members Only Show at the University of Charleston art gallery in the student union.  Over 54 artwork (from 54 artists) can be seen.  Laura has her "Impressions of Dolly Sods", a limited edition metallic photo collage.  This show can be viewed during the month of September.  At the opening reception August 26th it was great to see the diversity and talent of this group.

 

The Tri-State Arts Association Bi-ennial Exhibition will open Sept 4, 2010 at the Huntington Museum of Art.  Opening Reception is on Sunday, September 5 from 2 - 4 pm. I proudly had one framed artwork accepted "Beauty is Where You Find It".  Open to the public, we'll have wonderful food too, as well as door prizes.  The show will remain up until the end of Sept.
